Well, I can no longer say I have never changed a diaper.
It only took 39 years, 1 month, 13 days before I had to change one, but I did AND it went off without a hitch.
After I released yesterday’s post (Is Today When “The Streak” Ends?) I grabbed the baby monitor and sat listening nervously for any sounds coming from Gavin as he napped.
I grabbed my phone and started texting Tammy when I heard noises.
Me: (4:53 p.m.) He may be getting up soon. I heard him in the monitor, just once though.
Me: (4:55 p.m.) I think he’s singing. haha…
Tammy: (4:57 p.m.) If he gets up, he will need a diaper change for sure.
Me: (4:57 p.m.) I know. That’s what Jason (Gavin’s Dad) said too. I should just grab him and come to you. Haha.
Me: (4:58 p.m.) He’s stopped talking now.
Me: (5:02 p.m.) Sh!t… It’s almost time. He’s starting to get louder… Oh man… Oh man… Please no poop… PLEASE.
I summoned up all of my courage and slowly opened the door to his bedroom. Gavin was on his knees playing with/talking to his Cars, the ones from the movie. He turned around, saw me and smiled.
I walked over, grabbed him and brought him over to the diaper changing area. As I put him down I asked him if he needed his diaper changed. He just looked at me and laughed.
I looked down at him, took a deep breath and started talking to myself as I took his shorts off.
Me: Please no poop, please no poop.
I removed the diaper, lifted his legs and took a peek underneath. When I saw white cloth I celebrated.
Me: That’s right buddy, that’s SWEET!! (laughs)
Gavin: Seat!! (laughs)
That’s right. I changed a diaper and, much to the dismay of a lot of my “so called friends,” all it had was pee in it. But it had so much in it that I think Gavin must have been leaking like sieve the ENTIRE time he was sleeping.
So technically my Never Changed a Diaper streak has ended, but my Never Changed a Poop Diaper streak is still alive and kicking!!
I have to admit that I’m not too confident in that streak lasting another 39 years, 1 month, 13 days, especially since Gavin’s now got a little sister.
Ellie Marie was born last night at 7:23 p.m. She weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and came out in “only five pushes” according to Kristan.
We went to the hospital last night to see it. People kept trying to get me to hold it but it will be quite some time before I’m anywhere close to being ready for that.
