Keeping MovemberMania Rolling

The first week of the month was a whirlwind for me. Not only was I on TV talking about Movember, but I also went to see the last Mötley Crüe concert – but that’s a story for another day.

MovemberMania_342The first week of Movember was spent with me trying to recruit people to join MovemberMania – some attempts were successful, others not so much. I didn’t focus much on trying to bring donations in because all I was concerned with was getting the team in place.

I felt like I was able to get a good team in place — despite not having anyone from 2013 team — but I KNEW we had a good team when five days into Movember, we had raised $350. Five days in and already at 35% of my goal, I couldn’t believe it.

The last few days I focused on getting the word out about My Fox Memphis’ Joey and Matt joining MovemberMania, in hopes of drumming up support and donations for them.

I’ve been Facebooking and Tweeting out links where people can make donations to whoever they wanted. But as of Nov. 11, neither Joey or Matt have received any love.

I created a poster pitting the two Fox 13 personalities against each other. I even created a shorter URL that would be easy for viewers to remember in hopes they’d go donate.

Joey-vs-MattThat hasn’t happened.

Instead people are commenting with #TeamJoey or “Team Joey for sure! Joey rocks the stache!! Bow tie too!”

While the number of Team Joey comments far outweigh the Team Matt comments, they are both still tied in the category that counts… donations.

Well, technically Matt is ahead of Joey, $20 to $0, but Matt donated to himself and while that DOES count they are still tied when it comes to viewer donations.

As of Nov. 12, MovemberMania has raised $666, an amount that I would like to see change in the next few days. This number has changed since I started writing this.

He has also made some really cool Mo-Gram cards for people to give to their friends or loved ones to remind them about how going to the doctor is important. You can find those on Facebook.

You cam find those on Facebook here. Randee will even work with you to make custom ones for someone in your life.

Fellow blogger, Hasty Words, has brought in $101 so far which is good for 2nd place. My friend and coworker Billy is in 3rd place with $50.

The MovemberMania team has received $120 so far and I’m so appreciative for each donation given. We got one donation from someone I went to high school with over 20 years ago. I was speechless at her generosity as well as everyone one else’s.

Times are hard so it means a lot to me to know that any of you are willing to donate. If all you can donate is $1 then I’m thankful because you took the time to give.

Seriously, if all you can donate is $1 then do it. I’d gladly take it because I know that it’s going to a good cause.

I will ship cookies from my sister’s bakery, Sweet Treats, to anyone donating $30 or more to me – or to the MovemberMania team. I did this last year and it was successful, so I figured I’d try it again this year.

A picture’s worth a 1,000 words….at least, after 25 years, the middle grows in….looks a little less like my ’80s porno ‘stache back in the day!
